Stronger together. The “Spiders of Lecco” have been proving this for more than eight decades. Founded in 1946 by four young climbing enthusiasts, the association proved to be the best response to the post-war reality. For Giulio and Nino Bartesaghi, Emilio Ratti, and Gigino Amati, the mountains were a love at first sight – a place to pursue sporting ambitions and hang out with friends. They were soon joined by other enthusiasts, including Gigi Vitali. It was upon seeing his athletic performances that the famous Italian climber Tita Piaz is said to have exclaimed: “This man climbs like a spider!”, thus cementing the group’s name.
